July 2022 Roundup

Hello everyone!

I got up to lots of exciting things in the month of July, and I'm looking forward to telling you all about it! So without further ado...

Life suff...

At the start of the month I decided to jump into James Martin's Logo Lengends course. Super interesting, and James seems like a pretty sound guy.

I haven't taken a course in a few months, so it feels good to get back into the learning groove.

California Roadtrip

A California Roadtrip blog by floral tattoo artist Lu Loram Martin.
I took a super fun 6 day roadtrip with my friends...Wanna see the bears I spotted? Or hear about the murder house I ended up staying in!? Check out this blog post for all the gritty details.
Hmm, what else?...Oh yeah...

I bought a house!!!

Dollhouse, by floral tattoo artist Lu Loram Martin, in Toronto Canada

I mean, it's a dollhouse, but I'm still super stoked about it! I'm hoping to do some fun things with it, so stay tuned to see what unfolds.

Patreon is back!

The hiatus is over! I'm back on patreon and excited to bring you some new goodies! From flash previews, to step-by-step design talk throughs. Plus a recorded Q & A session where I answer your common questions, including:

  • How I found my style
  • What brushes I use in procreate (Plus giving a couple away!)
  • How to create a focal point
  • My 3 step design check

Also there's a bonus for folks who sign up in August- access to July's content as well!

Visiting Leslieville

Things to do in Leslieville blogpost by floral tattoo artist Lu Loram Martin.

I made a quick blog post about some of the places around Black Cloud Tattoos that are worth a visit if you're in the area!

New!!!

New wallpaper packs with custom bubble tea cat designs illustrated by floral tattoo artist Lu Loram Martin.

Wallpaper packs! I've just added two new wallpaper packs to my online store, so if you want to carry around the Always Dreaming or Sweet Dreams prints in your pocket it's your lucky day!

The sets have both phone and desktop wallpapers. Also, the Sweet Dreams set will be August's wallpaper in Patreon, so if you subscribe you'll get it.

Plus, you can now find me on tik tok! Because IG seems to be content in it's plan to self-destruct.

Shows "Instagram circa 2017 vs. instagram circa 2022"- The Breakfast Club meme.

I've been listening to...

GIVEON // GIVE OR TAKE

So gd romantic

PINK SWEAT$ // PINK PLANET

How have I only just heard of him??? Also pretty romantic thinking about it, apparently there's a theme. And all his album artwork is doooope

REEL TO REAL // LOVE

Think this might be my album of the summer.

Honestly didn't realise Mac Miller's // Everyone's Gotta Live was a cover!

I've been watching...

Shows Eddie from Stranger Things.

STRANGER THINGS 4 (V2)

Oh Eddie.

UNDER THE BANNER OF HEAVEN

True crime series, religious fundamentalism, murder, great cast.

ATLANTA S3

My god Atlanta is so good

WILDLIFE LIVE STREAMS

I found explorg.org! Livestreams of animals from all over the world. Most of them are from protected national parks. The other day I was watching an elephant drinking from a watering hole in Africa. Today I was sketching bears fishing in Alaska. In real time! How amazing is that?

ELVIS

Really enjoyed it (obviously not an uplifting movie). Man, Austin Butler is great in it.

PERSUASION (NETFLIX)

Love me a period drama. Dakota Johnson is gorgeous.

Side note: is breaking the 4th wall going to be the cinematic trend of this era?

I've been reading...

shows "understanding comics" cover

UNDERSTANDING COMICS // SCOTT McCLOUD

A comic about comics. More the design concept as opposed to the history. Amazing.

PASSING FOR HUMAN // LIANA FINNICK

A beautiful graphic novel about being an outsider.

YOUR HEAD IS A HOUSEBOAT // CAMPBELL WALKER

I love the way this guy writes, he's hilarious. An illustrated guide to undertanding what's going on in your brain. For the overthinkers.

I KNOW YOU RIDER & PASSING // LESLIE STEIN

After reading her interview on Walk It Off (blog), I picked up a couple of Leslie's graphic novels from the library. I Know You Rider is especially hard hitting as it is about abortion and was written when Kavanaugh was nominated. Given where the US is now, it is a sad state of affairs. My codolences Leslie (and all potential baby havers of America).

Some things worth sharing...

  • This article by Jia Tolentino for the New Yorker, about the overturning of Roe v Wade (which I'm sure all of you are just as horrified about as I am) is an important read.
  • You can search the ROM's collection online which is pretty fun, also the ground floor of the ROM is free for anyone to visit all summer if you're in Toronto.
  • The best video I've watched in a long time ‘Emmanual don’t do it!' (Emmanual's an Emu)
  • Anyone having trouble with their wi-fi since Rogers went all Eleven season 4??? (….lost power, lol, yeah I'm not funny). I haven't been able to have a decent convo with my Mum and it's driving me mad (this more complaining than sharing)

Check out my newsletters to see more things worth sharing (according to me!)
  •

To see the tattoos I've been working on, my instagram

is the best place to view the newest and latest!

And as always, thanks for being interested in what I do!

    Lu
