Whether I'm drawing directly onto your body with a marker, or sketching ideas weeks before your appointment, my favourite tattoos have always been the ones we create together.

 

I don't believe the best tattoos come from rushing a design or treating it like a finished product that's handed over in one go. The best tattoos are developed together.

 

With that in mind, I'm simplifying my design process.

 

Instead of having three different options, there will now be two ways we'll design your tattoo…

 

 

This is my freehand process, and it's staying exactly the same (yay).

 

For botanical tattoos especially, drawing directly onto your body allows me to create something that flows naturally with your anatomy in a way that just isn't possible on paper.

 

We'll work together in person, adjusting the placement, movement and flow until it feels completely right before we begin tattooing.

 

If you've followed my work for a while, you'll know this is how the majority of my floral sleeves and larger botanical pieces are created, and it's still the process I recommend whenever I think it'll create the strongest tattoo.

 

Nothing is changing here. But this will be for floral tattoos only.

 

 

 

For tattoos that benefit from being designed beforehand, we'll now begin the design process around four weeks before your appointment.

 

Instead of me sending sketches a few days before your tattoo, we'll have several weeks to develop your ideas together.

 

We'll begin with a consultation (either in person or via zoom), to get the conversation flowing. Then we will work back and forth, exploring ideas and refining sketches (I'll be doing the sketching, don't panic), until we reach your perfect design. And you'll have plenty of time to sit with the design before your appointment. This process will give us both time to breathe during the design process.

 

I genuinely think this is a much better way of creating custom tattoos. It gives us room to explore ideas properly rather than trying to make important design decisions over a couple of days.

 

On the day of your tattoo we'll use a mix of stencils and freehand drawing to finalise your tattoo design on your skin, so that it fits and flows perfectly with you.

 

 

 

If I'm honest... the old timeline never felt ideal.

 

Trying to design a custom tattoo only a few days before an appointment often meant everything felt a little rushed.

 

And tattoos deserve better than that.

I think it'll be a much calmer and more enjoyable process for both of us.

 

 

If we're creating a Drawn in the Moment (freehand) tattoo, nothing changes.

 

If we're creating a Drawn Together (custom) tattoo, there will now be a $200 design fee, which covers the collaborative design process over those four weeks before your appointment. 

 

Rather than seeing your design a few days before your tattoo, you'll be involved throughout the creative process from the very beginning.

 

 

Over the years I've realised that the best tattoos aren't created because one person has all the answers, they're created because artist and client build something together.

 

Sometimes that happens with a marker, directly on your skin.

Sometimes it happens over a month of sketches, emails and conversations.

 

Either way, the goal is exactly the same. To create a tattoo that feels completely, uniquely yours.
